This Czech-language novel presents an existential world set against the story of the deteriorating relationship between Luk, an ambitious young philosophy student, and Julie, a student of acting. It explores fundamental questions including the different meanings of love, anxiety, loneliness and freedom. A second narrative thread offers glimpses into the final days of Jan Palach, whose act Luk attempts to understand in an original way. In his debut novel, Petr Prek seeks to show how deeply philosophical thought is connected with everyday life.
