In pursuit of gold, fame and trouble, this fast-paced and cleverly twisting graphic novel travels from the legendary El Dorado and the palaces of Spanish nobles to the depths of Peruvian mines, mountain peaks, jungles and wilderness. Spanish picaresque novels traditionally recount the life of a rogue or scoundrel, and one of the most famous is Francisco de Quevedos seventeenth-century work The Life of a Rascal, which ends with its hero Pablos sailing to the New World. Screenwriter Alain Ayroles and Juanjo Guarnido, the artist best known for the Blacksad series, continue Pabloss story in South America, presenting a vivid mosaic of landscapes from the Amazon to the Cordilleras and characters ranging from Spanish grandees to escaped slaves. The settings, striking colours and caricatured figures allow Guarnido to display the full range of spectacular imagery associated with his work on Blacksad.
