Za horama, za lesama… – CD

This CD commemorates jazz pianist, composer and arranger Emil Viklick’s seventy-fifth birthday with music inspired by his Moravian roots and his affection for folk songs transformed into compositions for a trio and special guests. The performers include bassist Frantiek Uhl, drummer Cyril Zelek, violinist Ji Pavlica, cimbalom player Milan Malina, saxophonist Frantiek Kop, and singers Iva Bittov and the legendary Vra Domincov. Nine original folk sources and one new composition create an assured, melodically rich performance enhanced by exceptional vocals. Originally released in 1991 and somewhat overlooked amid the social and musical upheaval of the time, the music remains fresh, inspired and inspiring, as this commemorative CD and LP reissue demonstrates. The repertoire includes Za horama, za lesama…, Vnko, vno, Preletl ftek, Grumle, Touha, Jedna sestra bratra mla, Mj konek pd, Lskou zhynul, Ke sa Janko na vojnu bral and an epilogue version of Za horama, za lesama….
