Winter Garden (2022)

Kristin Hannahs moving and haunting novel explores the intricate bond between mothers and daughters and the enduring links between the past and the present. Meredith and Nina Whitson are as different as sisters can be: one remains at home to raise her family and manage the family apple orchard, while the other follows her dream around the world to become a famous photojournalist. The estranged sisters reunite at their fathers deathbed, standing beside their cold and disapproving mother, Anya, to hear the final promise he extracts from the women in his life. It begins with an extraordinary story, a captivating and mysterious love story spanning sixty-five years, from war-torn Leningrad in the 1940s to modern-day Alaska. When Meredith and Nina finally uncover the secret of their mothers past and a terrible truth, it shakes the foundations of their family and their understanding of who they are. The novel has been praised as utterly absorbing by Taylor Jenkins Reid and powerful by Matt Haig.
