Vona Klabouchov Petra (2026)

This Czech-language novel is a chilling tale inspired by a real event in umava in 1853, when the remote settlements below Husk tt await the arrival of spring in vain. Instead, they face more frost and snow, burying everything and everyone, along with hunger, an unknown epidemic, terror and madness. Some choose death, while others renounce their humanity in the struggle to survive. The echo of the ancient tragedy passes through the generations to the present day in the descendants of one local family. Honouring both horror and the motifs of magical umava, the novel tells a story of good and evil, hatred and forgiveness, and a terrible legacy waiting to be uncovered. It is also a story of fear and misunderstanding passed from fathers to sons, and of women who have no right even to a name in a mans world, each one simply another Vona. From the author of the bestselling novels By the Northern Wall and Ignis fatuus.
