The risk of becoming a victim of crime concerns everyone. People respond differently when victimised, and even a seemingly minor offence can cause emotional harm. Crime also affects the victims loved ones, changing the quality of life of several people at once. This book introduces the main areas of victimology, including primary and secondary victimisation, myths about victims, and the course and consequences of victimisation. It presents practical findings from contemporary victimology, examining why people tend to blame or disparage victims, how to understand apparently illogical behaviour during and after an offence, why some victims remain silent or report a crime only later, and how to assess and respond to victims needs. The updated and expanded edition is based on current legislation and includes a new chapter on the psychology of victims, as well as a section on particularly vulnerable victims, including victims of domestic violence, rape and digital violence, and on communicating with victims of crime. The contents are in Czech.
