Victory City Rushdie Salman (2023)

This epic novel follows Pampa Kampana, a nine-year-old girl in fourteenth-century southern India who becomes a vessel for the goddess Parvati after witnessing her mothers death. Granted extraordinary powers, Pampa is told that she will help bring Bisnaga, the victory city, into existence. Over the next 250 years, her life becomes inseparable from the citys rise and fall, from its magical beginnings to its tragic destruction through the hubris of those in power. As rulers change, battles are won and lost, and allegiances shift, Pampa strives to give women equal agency in a patriarchal world. Styled as a translation of an ancient epic, this saga of love, adventure and myth celebrates the power of storytelling. The book is in English.
