Veer ve Vdni 1784 (Haydn, Mozart, Vahal, Dittersdorf) – CD

This classical music recording brings together string quartets by four highly regarded composers who met in cosmopolitan Vienna and were connected by friendship: Joseph Haydns String Quartet in G major, Op. 33 No. 5; Jan Ktitel Vahals String Quartet in A major, Op. 33 No. 2; Karl Ditters von Dittersdorfs String Quartet No. 5 in E-flat major; and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K. 465, known as the Dissonance. The recording draws inspiration from tenor Michael Kellys recollection of a 1784 musical evening at which Haydn, Dittersdorf, Vahal and Mozart played together. While Mozart revered Haydn as a master and Haydn praised Mozart as the greatest composer he knew, the works of Dittersdorf and Vahal remain less familiar to many listeners. The Bennewitz Quartet presents an opportunity to discover these overlooked masters in an acclaimed interpretation. The performers are Jakub Fier and tpn Jeek on first and second violin, Ji Pinkas on viola, and tpn Doleal on cello.
