Uite z Auschwitzu (slovensky) Holdenov Wendy (2025)

Inspired by the true story of a man who risked his life to save those who still had a chance to survive, this novel takes place in the darkness of Auschwitz concentration camp. There, a building with brightly painted walls provides daily refuge for hundreds of Jewish children. They escape the overcrowded barracks to return briefly to childhood, singing, dancing and playing. This small piece of heaven in hell is the work of Fredy Hirsch, a young Jewish teacher and prisoner who persuades the Nazis to let him lessen the impact of the camps greatest horrors on the children. Every day, he risks discovery and his own life to teach them everything he can in his makeshift school. But time is running out, and one final lesson remains for Fredy to teach them: how to survive. The contents are in Slovak.
