Tutanchamon – Cesta podsvtm Vannini Sandro (2019)

This detailed guide, published to mark the centenary of Howard Carters excavations in the Valley of the Kings, connects modern knowledge of the ancient Egyptian afterlife with Sandro Vanninis extremely high-resolution photographs to illuminate the journey Tutankhamun was believed to undertake after death. The objects buried with the young king in the 14th century BC and discovered by Carter in 1922 provide a unique window into long-vanished beliefs. They reveal the dangerous path to paradise as understood by the ancient Egyptians, a utopian Egypt attainable only after the judgment of the dead. Using painstaking photographic techniques, Vannini creates complete reproductions of murals, tombs and artefacts, preserving their original colours and revealing intricate, cleverly concealed details. His portfolio covers offerings and rituals, Osiris, judgment, the sky of the ancient Egyptians, the passage into the afterlife and eternal life in paradise. Texts by nine prominent Egyptologists accompany the photographs and explore the much-discussed mystery of Tutankhamuns legacy.
