Tlust princezna Petrnie Greve Katharina (2024)

This Czech-language graphic fairy tale follows Petrnie, the Little Princes overlooked cousin. While the entire universe adores the little prince who sees with his heart, nobody notices his fat cousin, who is perpetually angry and entirely unsentimental. Petrnie rejects every princess clich: she hates pink frills but loves mathematics. The Little Prince naturally lives on a larger planet, while Petrnie inhabits the smallest and most boring planet in the universe. With the help of Mirka, a multifunctional earthworm, she tries to liven up her bleak life, travelling through worm tunnels across the universe and attempting to meet David Bowie, usually without success. Petrnies absurdly comic adventures draw on motifs from The Little Prince, fairy tales, science fiction and classics such as Faust. The artwork also contains numerous references, with drawings that resemble an advertising leaflet, a board game or instructions for a cut-and-assemble model.
