The Yellow Wallpaper & Herland Perkins Gilman Charlotte (2022)

This English-language volume brings together The Yellow Wallpaper and Herland, two works by Charlotte Perkins Gilman that examine the patriarchal norms of turn-of-the-century America. In The Yellow Wallpaper, a woman paces frantically through the empty nursery at the top of a secluded mansion. Her husband John, a physician, offers her no comfort, she cannot bear to sit with the new baby because its crying makes her nervous, and the putrid yellow wallpaper appears to shift and creep before her eyes. First published in 1915, Herland follows three men who arrive in a female-only society where peace and tranquillity prevail, forcing them to question how their corrupted, male-dominated world can survive.
