The Sound and the Fury Faulkner William (1995)

This complex, intense American novel about a family has been considered one of the key novels of the twentieth century since it caused a furore on publication in 1929. Through four fractured narratives, it depicts the gradual disintegration of the Compson family and explores intense, passionate family relationships in which there is no love, only self-centredness. At its heart, this is a novel about lovelessness: only an idiot has no grief; only a fool would forget it. What else is there in this world sharp enough to stick to your guts? The book includes an introduction by Richard Hughes and is in English.
