The Silent Companions Purcell Laura (2018)

Newly married and newly widowed Elsie is sent to spend her pregnancy at her late husbands crumbling country estate, The Bridge. With her new servants resentful and the local villagers openly hostile, she has only her husbands awkward cousin for company, or so she thinks. Inside the house is a locked room, and beyond its door lie a two-hundred-year-old diary and a deeply unsettling painted wooden figure, a silent companion bearing a striking resemblance to Elsie herself.
