The Ghost Theatre: Utterly transporting, Elizabethan London as youve never seen it Osman Mat (2023)

On a rooftop in Elizabethan London, two worlds collide. Shay is a messenger girl and hawk trainer who sees the future in the patterns made by birds, while Nonesuch is the dark star of the citys famous child-theatre scene, celebrated like royalty yet poor as a beggar. Together they create the Ghost Theatre, a troupe that stages magical plays in Londons hidden corners. As their hallucinatory performances inspire rebellion among the citys outcasts, their relationship grows amid plague and a London in flames. Their rising fame draws them into the dangerous world of the Elizabethan court, where they discover that those who fly too high are certain to fall. Fantastical and captivating, this historical novel follows the rise and dramatic destruction of a dream born from love and torn apart by betrayal, bringing to life the child theatres, rioting apprentices, squalor, glamour, mysticism and rebellion of Elizabethan London.
