This collection of engaging and adventurous stories leads readers through Czech history, combining real events with legends and tales connected with castles from the age of knights, the eras of the Pemyslids and Luxembourgs, the Hussites, and later periods. It includes stories of famous alchemists, the legend of Petr Vok and the five-petalled rose, the executions of rebels, the Battle of White Mountain, the Thirty Years War, the plague that broke out in the seventeenth century, and the uprising of hungry peasants. The stories are presented in Eduard Petikas refined style and accompanied by striking illustrations by Zdenk Mzl. The contents are in Czech.
