This Czech-language reader for second-grade pupils is part of the Reading with Comprehension series, designed to support reading literacy, and follows the approach and objectives of the Framework Educational Programme for Basic Education. Its main aim is to encourage childrens interest in literature through engaging texts and entertaining tasks that motivate them to read further. Each literary extract is accompanied by questions and activities supporting the development of reading literacy. The texts cover all literary genres appropriate for the age group and correspond with topics taught in lessons about the world around us. Most of the cross-curricular questions are also linked to this subject. Questions and activities focused on pupils ethical education are included as well. Short encyclopaedic explanations of basic literary theory terms and interesting facts related to the extracts are marked with an owl symbol. The reader also contains riddles, suggestions for group activities and career games in which pupils choose a profession and complete a related task. Answers to the riddles and selected questions and activities are provided at the end.
