Table For Two Towles Amor (2024)

Amor Towles presents a collection of shorter fiction comprising six stories set in New York City and a novella set in Golden Age Hollywood. Most of the New York stories take place around the year 2000 and explore the fateful consequences of brief encounters and the delicate compromises at the heart of modern marriages. The novella, Eve in Hollywood, continues the story of Evelyn Ross, the indomitable character from Rules of Civility. In September 1938, Evelyn leaves New York intending to return to Indiana, but when her train reaches Chicago, where her parents are waiting, she extends her ticket to Los Angeles instead. Told from seven points of view, the noirish story follows Eve as she creates a new future for herself and others among the movie sets, bungalows and dive bars of Los Angeles. Written with Towless characteristic wit, humor and sophistication, the collection offers stylish and transporting fiction.
