Sudety: Ztracen rj (2025)

This collection of stories about pre-war life in the Sudetes comes from leading Czech writers. The region is still regarded as troubled territory, profoundly marked by the expulsion of its German population. What happened before events in the borderlands were irreversibly thrown off course? The stories evoke the boyhood adventures of Mlad hlasatel readers, grotesque and fateful first loves, an unbreakable bond with ones native landscape, and burning hatred fuelled by madness. Set against the backdrop of major historical events, these tales portray the tangled fates of the inhabitants of the Sudetes and create a vivid picture of life in a multi-ethnic border region. The ten stories range widely in both subject and style and include works by Kateina Tukov, Jaroslav Rudi, Michaela Klevisov and Leo Kya. The richly illustrated book features striking illustrations by Jaromr 99, inspired by period photographs, as well as a foreword by Michal Stehlk and Martin Groman, the authors of the podcast Rewrite History.
