Southern African Folktales Mirabeau Sone Enongene (2023)

This lively collection of Southern African folktales reflects a region of extraordinary diversity, stretching from forests to deserts, coasts to mountains, and subtropical to temperate climates. It introduces the Zulu, Pedi and Venda peoples, as well as the ancient San peoples and the many other communities whose territories span modern Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Namibia, South Africa and Zimbabwe. Passed down orally, these tales share themes and roots shaped by migration across the region and have served to explain the world, guide society and entertain. The collection includes stories of creation and origins, trickster animals and their lessons, as well as hardship, greed and love, with a new introduction. It forms part of a series devoted to myth, mystery, the supernatural, horror, fantasy and science fiction.
