Songs About Love (Live) – CD

Yvonne Sanchez presents a live album of songs about love and the enduring emotions that are as old as humanity, while also exploring new musical worlds. Following the richly arranged pop-jazz of My Garden, she returns mainly to standards, but in a clear, intimate setting unlike the jazz-combo accompaniment on her debut Invitation. The songs are performed with guitar accompaniment, bringing her distinctive, slightly husky yet richly expressive voice and individual feeling to the fore. Alongside classics such as Burt Bacharachs The Look of Love, Cole Porters Night and Day and the captivating bossa nova Corcovado from the songbook of Antonio Carlos Jobim, the album includes two original songs. Recorded live in harmony with the audience, it has none of the chill of a studio production. Sanchez is accompanied by the Brazilian guitarist Pedro Tagliani, a long-time musical partner who also contributed to My Garden and has performed with her in both bands and duos; their mutual understanding is clearly present in the music.
