Slon na Zempln – Pbhy Slovenska Bn Andrej (2019)

Andrej Bn offers an intimate account of Slovakia and its people, written by an exceptional reporter who has covered the countrys important events for the past thirty years. The murder of journalist Jn Kuciak and his fiance Martina Kunrov in 2018 profoundly affected Slovak society and exposed links between the mafia and political leaders. Bn, who is also a photographer, knows Slovakia from its dusty and asphalt roads, from ierna nad Tisou to Bratislava, and portrays the people and stories he encounters with both a photographers attentive eye and a storytellers precise observation. His reports form a varied panorama of a country close to us yet perhaps least familiar, moving through time from Jnok and Jozef Tiso to the Italian mafia Ndrangheta and the our people who enjoy the advantages of connections at the highest levels. For this book, Bn, co-founder of the organization People in Need, received the Tatra banka Foundation Award for Art in the literature category. The book appears in a translation by Miroslav Zelinsk. The contents are in Czech.
