Right Thing, Right Now: Good Values. Good Character. Good Deeds. Holiday Ryan (2024)

In the third book of his Stoic Virtues series, Ryan Holiday explores the central role of integrity in a good life. Stoic wisdom teaches that doing what is right leads to happiness, success, meaning, reputation and love, while choosing the easy path leads to cowardice and folly. Drawing on examples of upright living, including Ulysses S. Grant and Marcus Aurelius, as well as cautionary tales involving Napoleon and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Holiday examines the power of standing by our convictions and acting according to our beliefs, together with the dangers of a poorly formed conscience. Our conscience and sense of justice are described as our first and last source of strength: something we can train, refine and fortify, but must never lose.
