Prolhan holky Aegisdottir Eva Bjorg (2026)

This Czech-language psychological thriller follows the disappearance of single mother Maranna, who leaves home at the beginning of May and never returns. After she leaves an ambiguous note for her neglected teenage daughter Hekla, everyone, including the police, concludes that she left voluntarily and took her own life. Seven months later, however, her mutilated body is found in a lava field beside Grbrk crater, forcing police officer Elma Jnsdttir and her colleagues from Akranes to reopen the case and investigate a murder. Fifteen years earlier, a new mother lies in the maternity ward struggling to accept her own child. Although she gradually finds a way to connect with the child, their relationship remains so strange and warped that it leads to more than one shocking tragedy. In this tense sequel to The Quiet Steps on the Stairs, Icelandic author Eva Bjrg Agisdttir explores how a disturbed childhood and trauma can lead to horrifying events later in life.
