Praha v srdci – 189 pbh msta a lid Fukov Renta (2015)

This book presents 189 stories that took place in Prague over the last two hundred years, showing that the recent past can be just as dramatic and tangled as the medieval period. Pragues residents included Franz Kafka, Jaroslav Seifert, Bohumil Hrabal, Jaroslav Haek, Jan Patoka, Ji Dienstbier and Vclav Havel. Occupying armies marched through the city; fighting took place for the radio station in Vinohrady, Czech patriots were executed in Kobylisy, dissidents were detained in Ruzyn, and the assassination of the Reich Protector was carried out in Prague. Once-industrial districts such as Smchov, Karln and Libe also made history during the industrial age, when poverty existed alongside success, progress and hope for a better tomorrow. This is not an exhaustive historical study, but a distinctive artistic and literary expression by an acclaimed author who loves her city.
