This monograph is the first publication in Czech literature to address the interdisciplinary issue of gait and stability disorders. Its editor, MUDr. Martina Hoskovcov, Ph.D., and the entire team of authors have worked in this field for many years. The editorial team comes from the Henner Neurological Clinic, where gait disorders have been researched for more than 20 years. The general section covers the anatomy, neurophysiology, kinesiology and ontogeny of gait and stability, while also considering the effects of ageing on these functions. It presents the basic differential diagnostic reasoning used to classify both disorders, a general examination procedure integrating the perspectives of a neurologist and physiotherapist, and clinical and instrumental examination methods. The special section focuses on the clinical presentation, examination specifics and current treatment trends for a broad range of neurological diagnoses, including disorders caused by damage to peripheral nerves, muscles and the skeleton, the cerebellum and vestibular system, as well as spastic paresis, Parkinsons disease, dystonia, other hyperkinetic syndromes and functional disorders. Separate chapters cover gait disorders and falls in old age and multiple sclerosis. Numerous illustrations and summary tables complement both sections. The book is intended mainly for neurologists, rehabilitation physicians and physiotherapists, but also provides useful information for general practitioners, other professionals, medical students and the wider public. The contents are in Czech.
