This Czech-language travel book follows a solo journey by train to Nov Msto in Slovakia, then by bicycle through northern Hungary, northern Romania, the Maramure and Bukovina mountain regions, the highlands and Moldova, including the territory of the so-called Transnistrian Moldavian Republic. The route continues through southern Romania to Bucharest, from where the author returns by FlixBus to Budapest and then cycles along the Danube Trail through Bratislava, Vienna and Linz, returning to the Czech Republic via the Vy Brod Pass. The author is particularly struck by the extraordinary kindness of people in the Romanian mountains and Moldova, who, despite lacking many everyday necessities, are happy to share what little they have. He also describes the danger posed by the overpopulation of brown bears in the Romanian mountains, including trees clawed by bears up to a height of two metres and warning signs advising people to travel in larger groups.
