The Master of the World (1904, Matre du monde) is an adventure science-fiction novel by French writer Jules Verne and part of his Extraordinary Voyages series. It is Vernes second-to-last completed novel and a continuation of Robur the Conqueror (Robur le Conqurant), published in 1886. Both books feature the brilliant inventor and engineer Robur. While he can still be regarded as a largely sympathetic character in the first novel, here he becomes a criminal determined to conquer the world. To achieve this, he relies on a remarkable universal vehicle called the Terror, which can fly like an aeroplane, travel over land like a car, sail on the surface like a ship and dive underwater like a submarine.
