Grey clouds roll over the summit called Gegule, and damp cold seeps into the marrow of everyone who dares to climb higher. In the half-light, we become more sensitive to the presence of the beings around us, whispering their stories. This Czech-language book is devoted to these stories, which may frighten us a little but continue to live on in us from generation to generation. The images are loosely inspired by Nordic poetic traditions and mythological tales. They were created in the dimness of a room after Johanka was born, when her sleep gave her mother moments of peace in which to draw. In the dark room, she reached for black paper and a white line so that she could see everything more clearly. Thus these midnight images came into being.
