Alex is an entirely ordinary boy with a rather unusual hobby. He is drawn to everything frightening and horrifying, to anything that exudes darkness and sends shivers down his spine. This interest leads him into the clutches of a witch, who imprisons him in an enchanted apartment in the middle of an otherwise ordinary New York building. Like Scheherazade, Alex must tell her a scary story every evening. He has been writing such stories for some time and has several filled notebooks at his disposal, but the witch will not settle for just anything, so Alex must think carefully about his tales. As his supply of stories gradually dwindles and no new ones come to him, he searches for a way to escape the apartment. Will he overcome his creative block and write new stories to satisfy the witch, or devise an escape plan? Will she keep him captive forever, or finish him off like those who came before him? This Czech-language edition is based on the book by J. A. White.
