Musorgskij, Skrjabin, Rachmaninov: Skladby pro klavr – CD

This CD presents virtuoso pianist Jan Schulmeisters Supraphon debut, featuring piano works by Russian composers of the late 19th century. Modest Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition leads the listener through an imaginary exhibition of works by his deceased friend, painter and architect Viktor Hartmann. Sergei Rachmaninoff wrote his appealing cycle Moments musicaux during a period of deep existential and creative crisis, while his fellow student Alexander Scriabin followed the path of a visionary and experimenter. The recording includes Scriabins Five Preludes, Op. 16, and his Etude in C-sharp minor, Op. 2 No. 1, as well as Rachmaninoffs Six Moments musicaux, Op. 16. This repertoire allows Jan Schulmeister to display both his virtuoso technique and his profound musical sensitivity.
