This Czech-language book presents a unique collection of authentic diary entries, poems and stories by Pavel Fischl, later known as Gabriel Dagan. Created between 1941 and 1943 in Prague under the Protectorate and subsequently in the Terezn ghetto, the writings offer deep insight into the innermost feelings, reflections on Zionism and creative processes of a young man facing the cruel reality of the Holocaust. The literary treasure was discovered by the authors son, Michael Dagan, in his parents estate in 2023, fifteen years after his fathers death. The publication also corrects a historical inaccuracy: an extract from Pavels Terezn diary, published in Butterflies Dont Live Here, was mistakenly attributed to his namesake Petr Fischl, who died in Auschwitz. The work serves both as valuable historical testimony to life in the ghetto and as a tribute to the indestructible human hope and the power of artistic expression that accompanied Pavel throughout his later life as a prominent Israeli dramatist and psychotherapist.
