Les v dom Morntajnov Alena (2024)

A chilling novel by Alena Morntajnov, whose books include Hana, The Silent Years and November. They call her the little girl, and she seems to have come into the world by accident, as if she were an unwanted addition. Her father disappeared somewhere during the floods, while her mother escapes responsibility through lovers and alcohol, leaving the girl in the care of a hostile grandmother who runs a plant nursery and believes that everything bad in life can be eradicated like voracious slugs, or simply left unmentioned. Yet a threatening presence hides in the forest surrounding them, and one day the little girl begins to speak. This powerful and dramatic story shows that nothing in life is as it first appears, and that no secret is ever buried so deeply that it cannot be dug up. The contents are in Czech.
