This tragicomic life story of Bohu Kulak spans the period from the Austro-Hungarian Empire through modern history after the Velvet Revolution in former Czechoslovakia and later the Czech Republic. Based on real events, the story returns to Bohu in his memories as his life draws to an end. Our entire life is stored in the brain like a film in a vault, projected at the moment of death: what kind of film is it, black and white or in colour, a comedy, drama or thriller? Bohus film is not morbid or filled with fear and anxiety. On the contrary, it is full of the optimism of a man more than a hundred years old who fears neither death nor flirtation. Until his final breath, he believes in love, humour and a better world. Without bitterness, he describes the drama that life brings to him, his family and his classmates over almost six generations. He loves life, knows how to enjoy and experience it, and in difficult times manages to survive without losing his sense of humour. Bohu reminds us that we are all guilty of allowing psychopaths to control us, because our cowardice and fear made it possible for everything that has happened over more than a century to take place. As he says, Do not be afraid to be decent.
