This novel in Czech follows Erin, a woman from Boston whose marriage has ended, as she arrives in the windswept Irish coastal village of Roone Bay to build a new life and investigate a mysterious message in an old family Bible. The message has haunted her since childhood, and Erin hopes it will help her uncover the truth about her great-grandmother Nellie, who left Ireland for America, and Nellies little daughter Annie, who disappeared many years ago. Local historian and coastguard Finn initially refuses to help, but after rescuing Erin on a rainy night, he agrees to join her search. As they share their life stories by firelight and candlelight, the two grow closer. Just as Erin begins to believe that Roone Bay could become her new home, she makes a devastating discovery that challenges everything she thought she knew about herself, her past and her familys Irish heritage.
