Kapka jedu Maz Antonn (2022)

This Czech-language detective novel follows a private investigator whose life is already difficult when a woman in red arrives at his office. Despite her sweet, sexy smile, her eyes call for help. He watches her make coffee through the camera, wondering why she is seeking a detective, and before he has much time to decide whether to help, circumstances grind him down so badly that even honeyed Jack cannot help. Somewhere out there, someone wants his head. The narrator reflects on how life can be as easy or as terribly hard as people make it, and on the tiny light at the end of the road that some call salvation or a happy ending, while he calls it a ray of sunshine through the curtains during a morning hangover.
