James Everett Percival (2026)

James is a Pulitzer Prize-winning novel and a distinctive retelling of Mark Twains famous story The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Its protagonist is the enslaved Black man Jim, who travels alongside the boy Huck. The two find themselves on the run: Jim because he is about to be sold, while Huck takes the opportunity to escape from his tyrannical father. He uses pigs blood to make it appear that someone has killed him, unaware that his disappearance may be blamed on Jim. This begins a dangerous and unpredictable journey by raft down the Mississippi River towards the freedom they long for.
