Introduction to Legal English Volume I. Chrom Marta (2020)

This two-volume legal English course has for 25 years introduced students, particularly those at the Faculty of Law of Charles University, to the Anglo-American legal system and the language used in English texts across different Anglo-American jurisdictions. It also addresses the translation of legal texts and the use of English as a means of communication between different legal systems. The first volume contains ten lessons covering the Anglo-Saxon legal system, the constitutional structures of most English-speaking countries, the division of law into private, public and international law, and the fundamentals of property and contract law. It also includes useful appendices on writing a CV and an overview of English legal dictionaries. The course is intended not only for law and translation students, but also for practising lawyers, judges and public prosecutors.
