Hurvnkova straidlka – LP

This remastered LP recording from 1978, supplemented with archival photographs, draws on old Prague legends and their mysterious heroes, including a Vltava water sprite, the headless mayor of the Old Town, the terrifying rider from Vyehrad, the devil from the Emmaus Monastery and the dead gambler from St Jamess Church. Hurvnek appears as a disobedient, fussy, headless, forgetful and even impolite street urchin. His father Spejbl, unable to cope with raising his unruly son, welcomes an offer from the mischievous magician ito, who promises to teach the boy a lesson and reform him. A medieval Prague opens up before Hurvnek and his father, while ito gradually takes on the roles of the various figures from Prague legends. Death unexpectedly joins the revelry of wandering students, entertainers and girls, but fear of it brings the frightened Spejbl and Hurvnek together once again. Members of the Spejbl and Hurvnek Theatre ensemble perform on the record, with Frantiek Filipovsk irresistibly portraying the magician ito and all the other ghostly heroes.
