With nothing left to lose, she seeks refuge in the moving castle above Market Chipping, home of the feared Wizard Howl, whose appetite is said to be satisfied only by the souls of young girls. Castle in the Air follows Abdullah, a young carpet merchant who dreams that he is the lost son of a great prince. When his dreams begin to come true and Flower-in-the-Night is carried off, he sets out to rescue her, facing a genie, a djinn and villainous bandits. In House of Many Ways, Charmain Baker looks after the cottage of Great Uncle William, the Royal Wizard Norland, whose single door leads through space and time. She becomes responsible for a magical stray dog, a young apprentice wizard and the kings treasured documents, while encountering Sophie, Howl and the fire demon Calcifer.
