This Czech-language book by renowned psychologist and writer Irvin Yalom presents stories that take place during a single online therapy session lasting exactly one hour. What can happen when there is no more time, no continuation and no second chance? Can a person truly open up in one hour, and can a therapist absorb everything a client needs to say and reach some kind of conclusion? The clients come from around the world, and their intense, intimate encounters sometimes unfold alongside struggles with internet connections and microphone settings. At his age, Yalom has nothing left to lose, so, like his fictional therapist Ernest from Lying on the Couch, he chooses an unusually candid approach. He tells his clients personal things he might otherwise have kept hidden, helping them open their hearts fully during that one hour.
