Hnku, stj! – Skryt svt afroamerickch spiritul Bystrov Michal (2026)

This book offers a unique view of spirituals, songs from the era of slavery, in all their raw beauty and religious devotion, presented in new Czech adaptations by Michal Bystrov. This musical genre, born from the suffering of African American slaves, is known in the Czech Republic primarily through Spiritul kvintet, whose songs of hope, faith and pain became widely popular. Unlike their free adaptations, Bystrovs versions seek to capture the original tragic context, strict religious devotion and close links to the texts of the Old and New Testaments. His book contains free adaptations of almost 150 original spirituals, intended not only for reading but also for singing, accompanied by passages from the Bible that form an integral part of their spiritual message. The contents are in Czech.
