Hledn min – Jak si Microsoft zaal hrt (2025)

This Czech-language book by journalist Kyle Orland shows that even a simple logic game can have a fascinating story filled with disputes, controversy and unexpected cultural impact. If you had a spare moment and a Windows computer in the 1990s, you probably spent it playing Minesweeper. The game had a far greater influence on the world of computer games than its enormous number of players might suggest, because its digital ubiquity arrived long before video games acquired their current cultural importance. The book offers a range of amusing and surprising moments, including the author of Harry Potter admitting that she used Minesweeper as a replacement addiction while giving up smoking, and social gatherings where university deans, lawyers, investors and concert musicians revealed that they had fallen under the games spell. Minesweeper was not merely entertainment for computer nerds.
