Geniln ptelkyn 3 – Pbh tch, co odchzej, a tch, kte zstanou Ferrante Elena (2025)

The third novel in Elena Ferrantes story of Elena and Lila follows the two brilliant friends as they become young women and their paths seem to be separating for good. Elena moves to Florence, where she hopes to build a writing career, while Lila remains in the poverty of Napless outskirts. After the intoxicating freedom and prosperity of the wonderful 1960s, the harsh disillusionment of the years of lead arrives in the 1970s, as Italy is shaken by attacks from right- and left-wing extremists. Universities and cultural institutions become politicised, slogans about the need for class struggle ring out, and students and intellectuals become involved, while the conditions of workers, especially in Campania, oppressed by Camorra clans, do not improve. Elena would like to live amid the revolutionary ferment, but can she give her life purpose and direction without Lila? Can a friendship be maintained only by telephone, or is it better to sever a bond between disembodied voices? Around Elena, who flees Naples without realising that she carries it within her, and Lila, who remains there because she knows that the hardest person to escape is oneself, the kaleidoscope of lives in their home neighbourhood continues to turn, intertwining love, injustice, resentment, jealousy, loyalty and betrayal.
