Freedom : Memoirs 1954 – 2021 Merkel Angela (2024)

For 16 years, Angela Merkel was Chancellor of Germany, leading the country through numerous crises and shaping German and international politics. In these memoirs, co-written with her long-time political adviser Beate Baumann, she reflects on her life in two German states: 35 years in the German Democratic Republic and 35 years in reunited Germany. She speaks more intimately than ever about her childhood, youth and studies in the GDR, as well as the dramatic events of 1989, when the Berlin Wall fell and her political life began. She also shares memories and insights from meetings and conversations with some of the worlds most powerful people. Looking at significant national, European and international turning points, she explains how the decisions were made that shaped our times. The book offers a unique insight into the inner workings of power and makes a compelling plea for freedom.
