This recording presents Czech pianist Ivan Moravec (1930), who remained creatively active beyond the age of seventy and performed dozens of concerts around the world each year. His career began in the 1950s, when he impressed audiences in Italy, Austria and England, followed by his first appearance in the United States in 1962. He subsequently performed in many of the worlds most important concert halls and made dozens of recordings, several of which received international awards. When Philips released its prestigious 100-disc anthology Great Pianists of the 20th Century, Moravec was the only Czech pianist included. This portrait brings together some of his greatest musical passions, from Mozart to Ravel, capturing piano masterpieces written over almost 150 years. The selection reflects his highly refined sound, understated technical perfection and ability to captivate listeners. The recording is dominated by American sessions from the second half of the 1960s, which had never previously been released in Europe. The programme features music by Claude Debussy, Csar Franck and Maurice Ravel, performed by Ivan Moravec.
