Exaltatio Vnon koledy – CD

This Christmas album by mezzosoprano Dagmar Peckov features 30 carols and songs from Bohemia, Moravia and across Europe. Folk Christmas carols from Bohemia and Moravia meet songs from Czech Baroque hymn books, Advent and Christmas songs from old Europe, and original compositions by Jaroslav Krek. Peckov performs with tenor Vincenc Ignc Novotn, Musica Bohemica and conductor Jaroslav Krek. Following the successful Christmas album Nativitas, Exaltatio brings together the familiar sound of Czech Christmas with songs from France, Germany, England and Poland. The album also draws on Baroque hymn books, where popular devotion meets a noble, festive mood, as well as the more playful and poetic character of folk carols. Jaroslav Krek has created the arrangements in the distinctive style associated with Musica Bohemica and is also the author of several Baroque-inspired compositions, showing that music celebrating the beauty of Christmas does not end in the eighteenth century.
