In London in June 2019, Maggie is thirty, pregnant and broke. Facing a return to the hometown she fought to escape, she wonders whether having a baby with her boyfriend Ed will be the last spontaneous act of her life, while Ed keeps secret dreams of his own. Phil hates his office job and lives for the weekend as he falls for his housemate Keith, who already has a boyfriend.
