esk New York Nekola Martin (2021)

New York, a vibrant metropolis and gateway to the United States, attracted a considerable number of emigrants from the Czech lands. After the First World War, the Czech community numbered more than 40,000 people. Drawing on many years of research in New York archives, Martin Nekola presents a unique account of every aspect of Czech life across the ocean. The book explores the fascinating lives of Czech immigrants and the ways in which the local Czech community influenced modern Czech history. The author has also gathered dozens of valuable, previously unpublished photographs. The contents are in Czech.
