An advance directive is generally understood as a patients statement setting out the conditions for their care at a time when they are no longer able to express their wishes responsibly. There is currently no brief, comprehensive and generally accepted definition of the term, and the Czech Republic is still awaiting legislation governing this ethical and legal instrument. This monograph analyses selected problems associated with advance directives, examines their benefits and limitations, and proposes ways of reducing the risks they may create. It is intended primarily for doctors, lawyers and psychologists, all of whom may face decisions concerning patients who are no longer able to express their wishes about medical care. The contents are in Czech.
